MacOS Catalina 10.15; macOS Mojave 10.14; macOS High Sierra 10.13; macOS Sierra 10.12; Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11; Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10; Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9; Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8; Mac OS X Lion 10.7; Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6; Mac OS X Leopard 10.5; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4; Windows Server. Windows Server 2019; Windows Server. Mac OS X & macOS names. As you can see from the list above, with the exception of the first OS X beta, all versions of the Mac operating system from 2001 to 2012 were all named after big cats. Apple in June 2020 introduced the latest version of its iOS operating system, iOS 14, which was released on September 16. IOS 14 is one of Apple's biggest iOS updates to date, introducing Home.

The following models are supported:
- MacBook (2015 or later)
- MacBook Air (2013 or later)
- MacBook Pro (Late 2013 or later)
- Mac mini (2014 or later)
- iMac (2014 or later)
- iMac Pro (2017 or later)
- Mac Pro (2013 or later)
To see which model you have, click the Apple icon in your menu bar and choose About This Mac.
Make sure you're ready to upgrade.
Before you upgrade, we recommend that you back up your Mac. If your Mac is running OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later, you can upgrade directly to macOS Big Sur. You'll need the following:

Upgrading from an older version of macOS?
If you're running any release from macOS 10.13 to 10.9, you can upgrade to macOS Big Sur from the App Store. If you're running Mountain Lion 10.8, you will need to upgrade to El Capitan 10.11 first.
